Stop Your Job Listings from Being Removed on Indeed

Criteria you’re including in your open job listings could be violating Indeed’s rulebook.

The labor market continues to be tough going into next quarter. To make matters more challenging, we’ve been getting some reports of job listings not successfully posting to the Indeed job board due to Indeed terms violations.

More specifically, representatives at Indeed are advising the reason for job listings being removed is because of two separate violations:

  1. Age check requirements
  2. Background check requirements

What do the job listing violations mean?

Both requirements in question exist to help reduce discrimination in the hiring process.

  • Age check requirements: While it isn’t necessarily common to include questions regarding age in your posted job listings, it is common for those in our industry to questions verifying an applicant not a minor. However, according to Indeed’s guidelines, questions (including those verifying if an applicant is over 18 years of age) are not If your postings include this information, it could be flagged and removed from the job board.
  • Background check requirements: While not specifically called out in Indeed’s guidelines, the company wants to make sure applicants who cannot pass background checks still can apply to job openings.

Keep your job listings posted and active on Indeed.

Simply put, you cannot include age or background check requirements in your job listings. Remove this criterion from your job descriptions, titles, required criteria and screening questions, and focus on other elements of a great job description instead.

You could be wondering how to collect this information if it can’t be included in the job listing. The nature of your industry could require an individual to pass a background check to be cleared to work at certain locations or protect certain assets. It’s unrealistic to abandon these requirements entirely throughout the hiring process.

These rules apply only to job postings, not applications. With an applicant tracking and hiring system like Kwantek, you can include qualifying criteria as required responses as part of the job application, the same way you might collect valid driver’s license or state of residence data.
