TEAM’s VTO Program in Action

Volunteer Time Off program enables employees to give back to the community.

TEAM Software launched its Volunteer Time Off (VTO) program in early 2018 to provide employees with an avenue to give back to the community where they work and live. The program gives employees the equivalent of eight hours a quarter – or four days per year – to volunteer with TEAM partner organizations, like the TeamMates youth mentoring program, or other 501(c)(3) nonprofit community improvement organizations.

Since the rollout of the VTO program, several employees have taken advantage of it.  Here are a few of their stories.

Adam S.

Adam, a learning content specialist at TEAM, joined Samaritan’s Purse, a non-denominational international relief organization, to help rebuild a home in Rockport, Texas, that was damaged during the 2017 hurricanes. The home, whose owner had been living in her car for the past year, was completely rebuilt from the framework. Many of the Rockport residents didn’t have enough — or any —insurance to fully rebuild following the storms. Adam enjoyed sharing his time and skills to help others get back on their feet.

Arianna P.

In April, Arianna visited the four- and five-year-old students at a local preschool to share with them the importance of donating and volunteering. The children donated goods for their local food bank, and Arianna explained to them how their donations help organizations like the area food bank to provide for the community and help those in need. She also shared how TEAM supports the community through the VTO program. Arianna is the ERP Implementation lead in the Education department.

Bill R.

The Boy Scouts of America have been a part of Bill’s life for as long as he can remember. Growing up, he dreamed of reaching the rank of Eagle Scout, but he never had the chance. So, when his son Alex joined the Scouts in the first grade and wanted to earn that rank, Bill knew that this was a chance for him to live that dream, too. For the past three years through paid time off and VTO since its launch, Bill helped Alex complete his Eagle Scout project that helped his high school band. As a member of the Elkhorn High School band, Alex saw a need to install sound absorption panels, so he worked with architects, sound engineers, contractors and the school administration to find the best solution. With Bill’s guidance, Alex completed the project and earned the rank he — and Bill — have been dreaming of their whole lives. Bill is a representative in TEAM’s Client Services department.

Carol N.

Carol, TEAM’s Quality Assurance team lead, volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands, and this summer she took her little sister to a special event at Fun Plex, Omaha’s ride and water park. They spent the day swimming, sliding, driving, riding and sharing. One of the things Carol likes best about Big Brothers Big Sisters is the relationship she gets to build with her little sister, giving her a positive and accepting adult she can confide in as she grows up.

Ron S.

Ron, TEAM’s Business Intelligence Analyst, volunteers with his church youth group IMPACT (Inspired Ministry Preparing Authentic Christian Teens) and recently helped lead a summer service project and retreat. The first stop of the summer retreat was Nebraska’s Platte River State Park, where the group, known as the Edge Crew, cleared the trails of plants and trees and spread mulch. Next, the group went to the Open Door Mission’s Timberlake Outreach Center where they sorted items, stocked shelves and back-filled items. One of the kids asked Ron how he was able to spend time with them during the week. He explained the VTO program to her. Her reaction?  “Wow, that’s really cool.”

Tiffany L.

Part of the pledge you make when you join a sorority is to give back to your community, and as a member of the Omaha Area Alumni Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, Tiffany takes that to heart. Earlier this year, Tiffany, a regional sales manager at TEAM, joined her chapter to prepare dinner for 56 families residing at the Caroline Scott Rainbow House, an organization that provides housing to families with children being treated at Children’s Hospital. Tiffany noted that opportunities like this give her a feeling of pride for doing something good for others, especially those that are temporarily part of our community.

In addition, 10 TEAM employees who are active mentors with the TeamMates organization accompanied their mentees on the annual trip to Omaha’s Zoo & Aquarium in May. Others volunteered as marshals during the Pinnacle Bank Championship in July in support of the tournament’s selected charity, TeamMates.
